Surprise Proposal in Breckenridge, Colorado

Proposal photography has such a special place in my heart. There is just something so special about knowing how much intention went into planning to ask the love of your life to spend a lifetime with you. So when Javier reached out just before Leslie and him were planning to vacation to Breckenridge, I was more than happy to scout for the perfect location. Javier and Leslie’s surprise proposal in Breckenridge, Colorado was as magical as they come.

Javier submitted an inquiry about a month before Leslie and him were planning to visit the Breckenridge area for skiing and sightseeing. He envisioned popping the question among dramatic snowcapped mountains and wanted to include their families. I spent quite a bit of time scouting and researching the perfect spot for him to get down on one knee. We needed an easily accessible location with breathtaking views and fluffy snow. And it’s safe to say that Clinton Dam Gulch Reservoir checked all the boxes! Once I confirmed Javier and their families would have 4x4 vehicles to avoid getting stuck in the snow, the plan was put into action.

On a cold afternoon in February beneath a bright blue sky, I moseyed on down to the reservoir with my camera in tow. Javier and I decided that I would hide in plain sight, taking landscape photos. Once Javier and Leslie reached the reservoir, I offered to take a few photos for them on their phone — the perfect queue for Javier to do his thing. Once he was ready, I started filming the proposal, while snapping photos on my main camera. To say Leslie was shocked would be an understatement! Once she said, “YES!”, their loved ones ran down the trail to surprise Leslie. It was so sweet to see Leslie’s face and how appreciative she was of Javier’s plan.

We spent the rest of the afternoon taking group photos and snowy engagement photos. Leslie was such a trooper with her frozen fingers — all for the love of showing off the ring, amiright!? Photographing Javier and Leslie’s surprise proposal in Breckenridge, Colorado warmed my heart to the brim. I’ll be reminiscing on these photos until further notice.
