Located at the base of the Rocky Mountains’ Tenmile Range, Breckenridge is most known for its world-class ski resorts, year-round activities, and breathtaking views. When most people picture Colorado, they often imagine tons of snow and dramatic mountain peaks. While Breckenridge certainly fits the bill, it’s important to note that it’s not always snowy; the area is lucky enough to experience all 4 seasons! With year-round beauty and weather to enjoy, Breckenridge is the perfect US elopement destination.

Unbeatable Mountain Views

Where do I even begin!? An obvious top reason to elope in Breckenridge would be the unbeatable, endless mountain views. While I believe there is beauty everywhere in Colorado, Breckenridge (especially in the winter) feels like a scene straight out of a Hallmark movie. With snow-capped peaks, alpine lakes, and sweeping valleys, it’s easy to imagine saying “I do” surrounded by such captivating natural beauty. With five iconic peaks (Peaks 6, 7, 8, 9, 10) that makeup the skiing scene in Breckenridge, you definitely won’t be deprived of epic views — no matter what season.

As avid hikers and adventurers ourselves, we might be biased with this next statement… But the best way to take in the mountain views of Breckenridge is by heading out on a hike. Here are just a few hikes that are sure to check all your boxes for endless views of peaks and vistas alike:

- Summer in Breckenridge is pure bliss. With comfortable temperatures rarely reaching beyond 80℉, the sun-drenched landscape is hard to beat. Wildflowers blanket the valleys beginning in early July and last all the way through early September. While tourists flock to the area in the Summer months, you can easily work around the hustle and bustle by choosing a weekday for your elopement or opting for a secluded ceremony location.

- Fall in Breckenridge is the best time to elope if you’d like to miss the Summer crowds, and beat the Winter rush. With golden aspens glowing throughout the landscape and crisp mountain air floating about, it feels like its own kind of magic. Because Breckenridge is nearly double the altitude of Denver, don’t be surprised if early snowfall makes its way into the area during your Fall nuptials.

- Winter is Breckenridge’s time to shine. With world-class ski resorts and a romantic downtown area to stroll through, Winter is your chance to live out your very own Hallmark love story. Average daytime highs feel comfortable, just below freezing. As far as the average snowfall goes during the cold season, you can expect upwards of 22 feet!

- Spring in Breckenridge usually feels like an extension of Winter, which is perfect for coupes who want to soak up the last bits of snow before Summer seeps in. As the snow melts, wildflowers and wildlife alike begin to emerge. Average highs are typically in the upper 40s and lower 50s between April and May, which feels warm coming out of a chilly Winter elsewhere.

Easy Mountain Access

Unlike some remote Colorado locations, Breck gives you epic backdrops and easy access to lodging, restaurants, and paved roads — perfect for guests, vendors, and sunrise/sunset sessions. If you and your partner envision inviting guests who may have mobility concerns to your elopement, choosing an easily accessible location like Breckenridge is the way to go.

From hiking to an alpine lake, taking a gondola to the top of a peak, off-roading up a mountain pass, or even keeping it simple with a scenic overlook — the day can be as adventurous or relaxed as you want. Breckenridge is also a unique elopement destination because of its historical start. Founded in 1859 during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush, you can imagine just how much history the town is steeped in. Even if you and your honey aren’t huge history buffs, I highly recommend taking a mining tour or exploring an old mining town.

Imagine after exchanging vows, grabbing drinks on Main Street, booking a private chef, soaking in a hot tub, or staying in a luxury cabin — your elopement doesn’t end when the sun sets. When the roads are coated in snow, the warm light pouring from storefronts feels just so cozy. 10/10 recommend a Winter elopement if you’re wanting a unique experience. AND, the closer your elopement is to Christmas, the more magical the vibes — Christmas lights light the town and the atmosphere is unbeatable.

Dog-Friendly Elopement Destination

Breckenridge is one of the most dog-friendly towns in Colorado — if your pup is part of the family, they can 100% be part of your day. Chuck and I love bringing our beloved pup, Hoka, along on adventures whenever we get the chance. Throughout our many years adventuring just as a couple, living in a truck camper, and having Hoka, we have definitely visited many places in the US that were not dog-friendly.

It seems to always shock couples when they plan a national park elopement and discover that many of the trails are not dog-friendly. Even Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park has strict limitations on where dogs are allowed — spoiler alert: no trails. So for couples who want to include their beloved four-legged friend, Breckenridge is an incredible destination to do so in. Numerous hiking trails, restaurant patios, breweries, and even the Gondola are dog-friendly! Talk about a score.

One of the most popular reasons couples elope is because they want the experience focused on their love — rather than the pomp and circumstance that traditional weddings seem to sometimes get consumed by.
