Surprise Proposal in Crested Butte, Colorado
If there was a proposal that felt like a Hallmark movie, it would absolutely be Lauren and Zach’s surprise proposal in Crested Butte, Colorado. What initially began as a pre-holiday trip to the mountains ended up being one of this sweet couple’s best days ever. The care and intention that went into Zach’s surprise proposal was absolutely beautiful, and made capturing their engagement session even sweeter.

As a Colorado wedding and elopement photographer (alongside my videographer hubby), it’s the absolute coolest thing to get to meet people from all over the US. When Zach reached out ahead of his and Lauren’s visit to Crested Butte, we started planning the perfect proposal. Because it was just ahead of Christmastime, he wanted to make sure we had time to visit the downtown area to enjoy the magical lights. So we decided that sunset with Mount Crested Butte would be the best time, followed by heading downtown to live out the rest of their Hallmark movie.
The day of the proposal, I headed to our location to make sure everything was ready for the soon-to-be fiancés. About an hour before the sun descended behind Mount Crested Butte, I captured the moment Lauren said, “YES!” to Zach. To say that Lauren was surprised would be an understatement! We then took some moments to frolic in the snow before an outfit change. Thanks to Zach’s aunt, Lauren had a second outfit for the second half of their surprise engagement session in the mountains.
After catching the last bits of sunlight, we made our way to downtown Crested Butte for a magical blue hour among twinkling lights. While we were exploring the area, Lauren mentioned how much she loved to read just as we stumbled upon the cutest local bookstore. Naturally, we fully leaned into the Hallmark movie/rom-com vibes and headed inside for a very bookish couples session. The atmosphere was so cozy and romantic, I still can’t wrap my head around it!

Lauren and Zach’s surprise proposal in Crested Butte, Colorado concluded with hot chocolate in the snowy streets beneath twinkling lights. It was the perfect way to end the most romantic mountain proposal!
