Cozy Winter Elopement in Breckenridge, Colorado
Winter in Colorado is unmatched. Between the world-class skiing, expansive trails, and abundant snowfall, it’s no wonder why millions flock to the area each Winter. But as much as Chuck and I love Winter sports, we love documenting Winter elopements even more! When Theresa and Donald inquired about our availability at the end of December for their cozy Winter elopement in Breckenridge, Colorado, it was a no brainer. In all honesty, it was the best way to close out 2024.
Winter elopement in Breckenridge
Theresa and Donald traveled all the way from Lafayette, Louisiana to Colorado to frolic in the fluffy snow surrounded by their immediate families. What a lot of couples don’t realize is that it’s okay not to be 100% sure of what location you want to say “I do” at. As a Colorado elopement photo and video team, Chuck and I love to assist our couples in finding the perfect place that checks all their boxes. In this sweet couple’s case, they envisioned breathtaking views, an accessible trail, and wanted to be close to a large town. After spending some time location scouting and sorting through places where we’ve explored, we landed on Officers Gulch for their intimate wedding ceremony. Located just over 20 minutes from Breckenridge, it was the perfect mix of wilderness — without being too secluded.
When we arrived to the trailhead, we were pleased to find just a few ice fishermen enjoying the fresh blanket of snow. If you’ve ever hiked in the snow, you know that it’s no easy feat — so we were happy that the trek wasn’t too long to get to the ceremony space. But we also immediately felt the brisk wind whipping through the mountains, so we decided to keep things short and sweet for the ceremony. While Donald waited up ahead with the officiant (Theresa’s older brother), Theresa’s mom escorted her along the snowy trail. As soon as Donald turned around to see his bride, he broke into tears. While I am always a sucker for the groom’s reaction to seeing his bride, there’s something so wholesome about documenting the reactions of everyone else. It was so evident just how proud Theresa’s brother was, and how loved the couple was as the ceremony began.

The couple exchanged heartfelt vows in the fluffy snow, towering pines and snow-covered mountains surrounding them. After Theresa and Donald exchanged rings, the happy tears continued throughout family formals. Despite the breeze, everyone was so happy to celebrate the newlyweds — especially in such a gorgeous place! Once we wrapped up the family formals, the couple embraced the cold snow as we took romantics. These Louisiana lovebirds couldn’t have been happier to be married and spending time together in the mountains.
As soon as we were all chilled to the bone, we made the drive into Breckenridge to warm up at Mimi & Pin. With warm cups of hot chocolate in hand, Theresa and Donald snuggled up before we ventured back outside. Main Street in Breckenridge was donned with twinkling lights, which made for the most romantic setting to sip hot cocoa. The newlyweds strolled the snow-covered sidewalks and danced beneath the lights, concluding the sweetest cozy winter elopement in Breckenridge, Colorado.
